Steve Guttenberg and I sat down for a little dialog with David Chesky. We talked about sound, music, and particular and sundry concrete abstractions ... or something like that.

Maybe New York was just messin' with my head? Doesn't matter, I had fun.

Once you've read all the threads and reviews, and had a look at the measurements on InnerFidelity, the next step in finding just the right headphone is to do some listening. There's really no better way to do that than by going to a local Head-Fi meet. And the New York Head-Fi group sure knows how to throw a great meet.

Here's a taste of what awaits you ...

Headphone measurements of frequency response, square waves, and impulse response are actually multiple ways of displaying the same information.

Here's a very cool proof!

Steve Guttenberg dragged me into the objectivist/subjectivist debate...but not kicking and screaming. Because I like to measure headphones, and because I love the experience of listening, I hold that debate pretty regularly all by myself.

Want a peek inside my head?

Oh, my! Spring is here, and my back porch is becoming habitable for keyboard tapping. Let's see what's up for this month.

I talk with Steve Guttenberg on the phone a few times a month, and I very much enjoy our chats. When Steve suggested we have a conversation about measurements and their relevance to audiophiles and write it up as an article, I was all-in immediately.

I hope you enjoy our chat as much as I did.

InnerFidelity's First Birthday!

One year!? Already!? I can hardly believe it. I figure it's a good time to take a moment and look how InnerFidelity is doing.

Let's do the numbers ...

Tap your cheek bones, and you'll hear it plain as day. The sound's not coming through your ear canals ... it's just rattling the bones in your ear, and you can hear it. But is this a good way to get your tunes?

Let's find out ...

Tet, as he likes to be called, wanted to see me put his latest creation, the Hesh 2 (~$50), through the ringer. Sure! Just as long as I get to pick you brain on headphone measurements. We ended up talking a lot about a wide variety of all things headphone, and we both learned quite a bit.

A hard-core headphone mini-meet, indeed!

Requests for review samples have been arriving regularly, and empty boxes strew the living room floor.

Got a fair few measurements done, though.

Like most people upon first hearing the Audez'e LCD-3 at last year's CanJam at RMAF, I was struck by the quicker sound of the new planar magnetic headphone over its predecessor, the LCD-2 Rev. 2. Definitely a step in the right direction. Then they started shipping ...

... and all hell seemed to break loose.

What can I say? January was about CES. It's become a month long adventure for me now.

Still ... got some very interesting headphones measured.
