I've been told the crack can sound much better using the 5998 tubes too. This is the next amp I'm getting especially for my HD600s.
CanJam at RMAF 2011: Bottlehead

Dan "Doc B." Schmalle and the Bottlehead crew visited CanJam for the first time and boy am I glad they came. Doc B. has his own little universe of tube geeks gathered together in a cool little community of DIYers on the forums of the Bottlehead site.
There you can get all sorts of help putting together some really great sounding gear including the stunning --- and cheap ($219) --- Bottlehead Crack OTL tube headphone amp kit that uses a 12AU7 and a 6080/6AS7 as it's active components.
The Bottlehead line also includes the Single Ended eXperimenter's Kit 2.1 ($539) to noodle around with 6DN7 dual triode tubes, and can be easily modified to roll a number of other similar triodes like the 6EM7/6EA7.
Doc B. has all sorts of Bottlehead vacuum tube kits including: headphone amps; preamplifiers; power amps; phono-stages; and even a reel-to-reel tape-head preamplifier. Build difficulty ranges from from easy-peasy to moderate.
Don't worry if you're not hand with a soldering iron, you can purchase kits pre-built. Build charges start at about $250.
The Crack sounded fabulous to me. I'll be building one soon.
