CES 2016: The Amazingly Feature-Rich ADL Stratos Headphone Amp

It's not a big unit, but as I looked, I continued to see more, and more, and more features. Almost more than I could believe. ADL claims to have gone above and beyond the GT40, known as "the Swiss Army knife of audio components", and it certainly looks that way to me.

The Stratos ($1300) is a headphone amp with unbalanced inputs and both unbalanced and 4-pin XLR balanced outputs. It's also an ESS ES9018K2M SABRE32 based DAC capable of USB DSD to 11.2M and PCM to 32bit/384kHz; Toslink and Coax inputs can be used for PCM to 24bit/192kHz. But it also has a phono stage and an analog-to-digital converter for ripping vinyl and other line input analog sources to PCM 24bit/192kHz.

A quick search of the web show the Stratos on-line at Moon-Audio. I bumped into Drew Baird from Moon and asked him what he thought of the product. He answered, "I don't know. Our first shipment sold out so quickly we didn't manage to keep a demo unit for ourselves." Well, that sounds promising.

Graeme Coley will give you the rundown in the video.
