If there were a high-end audio version of "I've Been Everywhere" it would be about Andy. The ones I know of are: Sound by Singer (famous high-end audio retailer in New York); Monster Cable (he was one of the guys that would fly private jets around meating the NBA teams getting on to their private jets to give them all Beats headphones); Cardas (not sure exactly what he did their...probably all the stuff that let George stay in the lab); JH Audio (same story; he was president so Jerry could do his magic in the lab). I'm sure there are many more.

This video will give you a feel for what an accommodating bloke Brannan is...I ended up mostly talking about myself in the video. Well...maybe I'm just a loud mouth. I did manage to pry out one of his secret desires. You'll just have to watch.

Andre seemingly walked in through the headphone community door and became an instant insider. He likes to help out and he knows his gadgets, and has made a place for himself behind both exhibitor and show management tables competently on the assist in times of SoCal meets and trade shows. Right from the start Andre didn't go to the shows, he made himself a part of the show.

Zach and I have something in common: we like working with wood. He, of course, creates beautiful headphones with ear capsules made with a variety of exotic woods. Me, I'm building a backwoods camper from a step van. Here's a couple pix.

Back in the days when I was meeting Warren in person for the first few times at shows, I'd often say something like, "Hey, do you remember when so-and-so did such-and-such that one time...hysterical!"

He'd answer, "You gotta remember, Tyll, I've only been around for year and a half."

Warren just felt like part of the family right off the bat.

Dan has done it right...meaning he both measures and listens. Pretty much every headphone he's made has been better than the last. I think it has more to do with the listening that the measurements. In fact I spent some quality time with Dan and his official corporate listener. I forgot his name, damit, but it was a fun conversation. Pretty cool job to have, eh? He passed the Philips listening test (when it was up) all the way to the gold level, and got the gig. Go to a trade show, you gotta bring the official listener along.

Gonna do this CanJam a bit different this year—I want to have dinner with folks and enjoy the evenings rather than sit in the hotel room pounding out a summary of the days product samplings.

The people in this business are endlessly interesting. Hang around with them for 30 years, and you end up loving a trade show mostly because you get to share a few moments with an astonishingly pleasing cast of characters.

So, this RMAF Friday I dropped my backpack under the MrSpeakers table, and strolled, video camera in hand, in search of people I love to hang with. Steve is the first of those folks.

Oh boy, what fun! Jana Dagdagan, Stereophile's Editorial Coordinator, has been visiting me here in my home in Montana for a few days to produce a series of videos. You can expect quite few more over the next few weeks as she edits them. Today, I'm going to talk about my vision of the future of headphones.

A couple of weeks ago I reviewed the Jabra Move and found it pretty good...a little too bass heavy for me, but pretty good for those who like some thump. The headphones mostly interested me because they came from Jabra, a company best known for both corporate and consumer telephone headsets.

That same curiosity had me contacting Plantronics for a similarly price headphone, the BackBeat 500. I've been more impressed with these products than I expected, but I think they're going to have to keep working on it to beat the likes of Sennheiser. Let's check 'em out.

A quick recap:

Jude and I agreed to exchange pairs and measure each other's headphones. I sent mine off to him, and received them back a few days ago along with his pair. Here are my measurements.
