QUAD. Just say the name around most music lovers or audiophiles (sometimes both) and you’re sure to elicit a response.

Over ear wireless cans without the headband? I’ve come across some interesting things on the Internet when it comes to personal audio, but when I saw this form-fitted wireless headphone design, I have to say I was more intrigued than dismissive of them.

With a nod to the influence of magnesium on improved resolution and resonance rejection, Audeze’s new LCD-i3 planar-magnetic IEM adopts the housing and grille design of its big brother the $2,495 USD LCD-i4 and with a nod to the present/future it also packs a Bluetooth wireless module in – all for just $899 USD.

Crossover. No, not the car designation, rather, that piece of (usually) passive circuitry which helps determine how transducers react to the frequency of incoming analog signals via excursion, etc.

Ask any chef and they’ll tell you ingredients are key to a recipe being palatable. They’ll also tell you that it’s what you do with those ingredients and the measure of each used that makes a recipe go from being palatable to memorable. If you substitute technology for ingredients and electro-acoustical engineer for chef, then you start to get where I’m going with all this.

Claiming a warmed-up bass response and more buttery top end than the tia Fourté, 64 Audio’s latest high-end IEM – the $3,799 USD Fourté Noir – is available while supplies last.

True wireless seems to be the lifestyle catchphrase for 2019 with Brit hifi legend Cambridge Audio even coining it for their new IPX5-certified (sweat and water protection for the sport inclined or weather challenged) Melomania 1 IEMs.

I was first exposed to the SPL (Sound Performance Lab) Phonitor X ($2,499 USD) a few years ago and its sound signature (or lack of one) has stayed with me since. So when I saw it at the Audeze booth in the Marketplace at T.H.E. Show, I knew I’d have to revisit it.

I’m a fan of The Bard just like most other prose knuckle draggers, so I try to sneak in a little Shakespeare to my headlines whenever I can.
