Things here at the bungalow are settling down into a more well-oiled machine status after the birth of my second daughter a few weeks ago, and with that comes more in-depth reviews. With that said I wanted to let readers know what was coming up in the pipeline.

I’ve been spending a fair amount of time with closed-back dynamic-driver equipped headphones of late. In particular Focal and Sennhieser, to the point where jumping to a pair of planar-magnetic headphones felt like I was going behind their, well… their closed backs.

Cables make no difference to the fidelity of sonics whatsoever. Cables make a big difference to the sonic signature of the electronics they are used with. Which camp are you?

Goldfinger is the third James Bond film starring Sean Connery and the 1964 spy thriller is one of my favourite films of all time, not the least of the reasons being the movie’s iconic antagonist Auric Goldfinger played by Gert Fröbe.

Amazon’s Alexa and Google’s Play apps both listen very carefully to what we’re all saying and while Roon does something altogether different than voice-activated access to data of all types, it seems Roon Labs are listening just as intently to their (audiophile) audience.

This is a more than capable phono/headphone preamplifier at $600 USD, at $299 USD it is an out-and-out bargain and why I named it to my InnerFidelity Editor’s Choice 2018 – Under $500 list. Dynamic, punchy, nuanced when it needs to be, this simply makes listening to LPs a fun, engaging and educational experience as it revealed a lot of detail in its resolution-abilities that had me relaxing and enjoying albums that I hadn’t hauled down from the shelves for years.

Bluetooth continues to muscle in on high-end headphone audio as a viable high-resolution alternative to getting tangled up in cables and Audeze is wasting no time capitalizing on the success of it’s Mobius wireless gaming headset’s cutting-edge Bluetooth implementation by spreading that wireless love to the both popular and critically-acclaimed iSINE series of micro planar-magnetic IEMs.
