It was fun covering the n00bs, but the old guard CanJammers had quite a good showing as well.
Having seen Astell & Kern at every show I've been to this past year it was hard to believe this was their first appearance at RMAF. Given the look and feel of their latest product, they seemed right at home here at CanJam.
Nope. Not going to do it. It might be the first time Cardas has exhibited at CanJam, but there's no way I'm going to call Andy Regan a n00b. In fact, Andy is quite the ambassador for headphones.
More than meets the eye here.
Yup...highlight of the show for me. Good people...good beer...good conversation...good music. What could possibly go wrong?
My dancing, for one.
If anyone ever tells you that a $30 headphone can't really sound all that good, tell them to go have a listen to the Tascam TH-02.
Give it a click, and I'll show you what I mean.
Now working for Audio Plus Services, I first met John Bevier when he worked for Sennheiser many, many years ago.
He said something to me once that turned out to be quite prophetic.
When I started HeadRoom over twenty years ago and built the first portable headphone amplifier, I thought to myself, "When Sony builds a portable headphone amplifier my life will be justified."
Sony, you complete me!
Man, if I had to do the entrepreneur thing all over again, I'd do a Kickstarter campaign. Gavin Fish did, and raised more than ten times his $28,000 goal.
His Geek Out USB headphone amp/DAC looks like it's off to a good start.
It looks like one of those Klutz Design headphone stands I use for photos, doesn't it? Hoooo-boy, there's a lot more in that stand than meets the eye!
Making the trip over the big pond, Scottish firm Reid Heath Acoustics came to CanJam for the first time showing off their new MA600i and MA750i in-ear products.
It's a long way from Germany to Denver, but Fried Reim made the trip with a dandy handful of Violectric headphone amps.
So I'm walking around looking for n00bs to CanJam and see that Westone has some new IEMs. I sit down to take a load off...and pretty quick I'm wrapped up in the sound of Westone's new W40.
They're not n00bs, but I just had to pull out my camera.
Here's a hot potato for you: JDS Labs' NwAvGuy O2 amp. Peal away the layers of politics and you'll find a pretty nice little amp at a bargain price.
There's more to this story...
Looks like just a big room...but it was filled with surprises. RMAF CanJam was also a bit schizophrenic for me. Read on for more....
