HIFIMAN launches Arya, Limited-Edition HE5se, Jade II ElectroStatic Headphone System and R2R2000 Streaming Audio Device at RMAF

Wasting no time in making new product announcements, HIFIMAN has hit the ground running at speed in the mile-high city with multiple launches of their latest products. The company rolled four major announcements today, so let’s touch briefly on each one based on their press releases and then follow up with more detail after RMAF.

Let’s start with the new Arya headphone which is a planar-magnetic over-ear that adapts HE1000 V2-series driver technology at a lower price point ($1,599 USD).

“Our HE1000 series is an audiophile favorite. In particular, the 1000 V2 continues to be one of our best-selling models to date,” said Dr. Fang Bian, Founder and CEO, HIFIMAN Electronics. “Our experience working and reworking the technology until we reached sonic perfection gave us the ability to adapt many of the same technical features in a headphone that is accessible to a wider audience of music lovers.”

Up next is the $699 USD HE5se planar-magnetic over-ear which is limited to only 500 units and is being released to celebrate the 10th year anniversary of the original model.

HIFIMAN said that the HE5se “…features wooden cups similar to the original, with improved build quality, headband, and overall durability that reflects the company’s years of headphone design evolution. Each HE5se will include a glass plate and laser etching marking the 10th anniversary special edition.

“The HE5 is a sentimental favorite for HIFIMAN customers and staff,” said Bian. “For many, it was the first high-end headphone to demonstrate the neutral, transparent sonics and wide soundstage of a planar design. As much as we appreciate the original, I think it is important for an updated version to reflect how far our brand and its products have come in 10 years.”

Jade II

The Jade II is a major update to the popular Jade electrostatic headphone system which “revisits the original HiFiMan classic with an expanded and more intimately enveloping soundstage that places the listener in the best seat in the house,” according to HIFIMAN.

Available either as headphones alone (Frequency Response: 7Hz -90kHz, Bias Voltage: 550V-650V, Weight: 365g) for $1,500 USD or with the dedicated 14-pound solid-state amplifier for $2,500 USD all-in, this offers significant savings as a bundle since the amp alone is set to retail for $1,599 USD.

Buy in bulk is what I’m sensing here.

Bian said “The Jade II epitomizes electrostatic speed and performance. A low-distortion nanotech driver measuring less than 0.001mm couples near zero distortion with lightning-fast response and a nano-particle coated diaphragm that provides an extreme high-frequency response.

Last, but not least is the $2,500 USD R2R2000 Streaming Audio amplifier/DAC/Bluetooth/player featuring LHDC (Low Latency High Definition Codec which the company claims is superior to the aptX codec), a proprietary OS, Dual R2R PCM1704U-K DAC chips and supports 8x oversampling. The unit features two balanced headphone output jacks, 3.5mm and 4.4mm, with a 4.4mm-to-XLR balanced connector adapter included. Balanced output power is rated at 500mW per-channel according to company specs. The unit supports FLAC, DSD, WAV, ALAC, AIFF, MP3 and accepts MicroSD cards up to 256GB in capacity. Frequency response is measured at 20Hz-40kHz with 0.0006 per cent total harmonic distortion.
